Two technicians in full Tyvek performing Category 3 water remediation on basement concrete

What Happens When You Call

  1. Call. We confirm the source on the phone: sewer backup, sump failure, seepage or a burst pipe.
  2. On-site within 60 minutes. Tyvek and respirators for sewage, power off to wet areas, containment up.
  3. Extract. Standing water is usually gone within 90 minutes of arrival.
  4. Remove and dry. Wet materials come out (pre-1990 homes are tested for asbestos first), then 3-7 days of drying.

What It Costs

Most water damage restoration jobs run $2,500 to $15,000, depending on the water category, how much is wet and how long it sat. See the full water damage restoration cost breakdown.

Insurance and Your Claim

Sewer backup is only covered with a sewer backup endorsement, so check your policy. We document the source and the water category on-site and bill your insurer directly on most covered claims, so you pay your deductible.

Sewage Backup Cleanup

Sewer backup is Category 3 water: it carries bacteria and has to be treated as a biohazard, not mopped up. Porous materials it touched come out, and every surface left gets antimicrobial treatment before drying.

Why Toronto Basements Flood

Old Toronto runs on combined sewers that carry storm and sanitary flow together. In heavy rain they surcharge and push water up through basement floor drains.

Claim the Toronto Subsidy After Your Flood

The City reimburses up to 80% of each invoice, to a maximum of $6,650 per property:

  • Plumbing assessment: up to $500
  • Backwater valve on the sanitary line: up to $1,600 each, maximum two
  • Sump pump: up to $2,250
  • Sump pump battery backup: up to $300
  • Foundation drain severance and capping: up to $400

The contractor must hold a valid City of Toronto business licence. Our licensed plumber installs backwater valves, sump pumps and battery backups after the cleanup, and we prepare the subsidy paperwork with you.

Sewage Backup Cleanup

A sanitary sewer backup is Category 3 water: it carries bacteria, viruses and parasites, and everything porous it touches has to come out. That means carpet and underpad, drywall and insulation to above the water line, particleboard and laminate, and most stored contents. Hard surfaces are cleaned, HEPA-vacuumed and treated with an antimicrobial, then the structure is dried to a verified standard before anything is rebuilt.

This is not a mop-and-bleach job. Without containment and negative air, a wet vacuum spreads contaminated aerosols through the rest of the house, and bleach does nothing for what has soaked into the framing. Note too that standard Ontario homeowner policies exclude sewer backup unless you carry the endorsement, typically $30 to $80 a year. If you have it, we bill your insurer directly.
